Time has gone by and the image of Via Veneto from Fellini's famous film "La Dolce Vita" remains imprinted in everyone's mind; however, actors are no longer seen sitting at tables in cafés, hounded by paparazzi. Luxury hotels and smart restaurants adorn the pavements of the historic Via Veneto. Even Trastevere and the areas around Via della Pace and Campo de' Fiori are landmarks of Rome's nightlife.
Piazza di Spagna - Perhaps the most striking square in the city, with the Fontana della Barcaccia, built in 1629 by the Bernini's, at the foot of the Spanish Steps. The structure is in the shape of a half-sunken ship, in remembrance of the flood in 1598 when the River Tiber broke its banks and inundated the city. Fontana di Trevi, Rome's most imposing fountain, dominates a small square in the heart of Rome and was made famous in the scene where Anita Ekberg takes a bath in it by night. The Roman Forum was built in the 6th century AD on marshland drained by means of a sewer system. In no time it became the focus of Ancient Rome's political and social life and was graced with new buildings, statues, temples and courts. The imposing Colosseum, used for public spectacles in Roman times, stands nearby.
